It always feels like there isn't enough money for the stuff me and my family want to do. We are surrounded by people who seem to have more than us. But we try to remember that we keep comparing ourselves to the wrong people. In Canada minimum wage puts you close to the top 1% globally. That seems insane but that's what the numbers are. And I'm not making minimum wage, I admit. Being confronted with these numbers have persuaded me, have persuaded our family, that it's a moral imperative to give a good chunk away in times of plenty. Most real estate agents focus on giving locally and I applaud that. Our communities have many eminently deserving causes and programs and how could we not wish to see our own cities and towns made better? But my wife and I have actually put our focus on directing funds to where they can make the biggest difference around the world, and that is always in developing countries at this point in time. We don't want any child to die of malaria for want of a $5 bed net and we don't want any person to live without the power of sight for lack of a $100 surgery. We feel very blessed to be able to direct dollars to the charities doing the important and necessary work of improving the lives of the world's least fortunate. Why Linda gives:

I am an advocate for the Alzheimer’s Society. I donate back to the Community from each sale we finalize. I set aside $200 from each home I sell and at the end of the year I distribute what I have collected back to charities that are important to me. My mom and mother in-law have both recently passed away from dementia, so the Alzheimer Society is top of my list. Having recently lost my two pups in the last 2 years and knowing that so many are homeless puts the Humane Society on my list. I also contribute to The MB Realtors Shelter Foundation, The Winnipeg Foundation, MB Harvest, Agape Table and Manitoba Animal Alliance. Why Amber gives:

As realtors we have the opportunity to build successful businesses that rely on the community and support of those around us. I have always believed that as my business continues to grow and succeed, that giving back to those who need it most is one way to show my extreme appreciation and gratitude for the support I have received. There are so many worthy causes out there (this long list shows that!) but I have a personal connection to a few close to my heart. My last career before becoming a Realtor was with Habitat for Humanity, and I was able to experience firsthand the unbelievable change that having a home and roots in a community has on families. I support Habitat still through a 250km cycle ride every September in Lake of the Woods area! Secondly, I was on the board of the Green Action Centre for many years helping them achieve their goals of grass roots eco-education, eco-friendly awareness, community events, compost initiatives, active transportation and more. Being "Green" is something that has always been a part of who I am, and the choices I make. GAC is a wonderful organization of hard-working green enthusiasts that deserve support. Lastly, I am the Past Chair of The Manitoba Realtors Shelter Foundation and have been on their board for 9 years now, and was on the Gimme Shelter board (and past Chair) prior to this position. Our work at the Shelter Foundation is far reaching into vulnerable communities in Manitoba. It's always so eye-opening meeting the staff and volunteers from the organizations we're able to support and the incredible heart and soul everyone puts into their positions helping homelessness, immigrants, elderly, women, children, vulnerable, and more. I thank each and every one of my clients for supporting me, so that we together are able to support these amazing, deserving, life changing organizations. Thanks for reading! Why Ron gives:

Born and raised here in beautiful Victoria on Vancouver Island, from an early age I experienced the joy of giving and helping others through service and later through financial contributions. I feel very fortunate to be able to give back and help others and do so through dozens of worthy causes including CMN for BC Children's Hospital, Our Place Shelter, Santa's Anonymous, various food banks, cancer, diabetes and mental health agencies, numerous youth sports teams, etc... My primary charity of choice is BC Children's Hospital which helps sick kids get better. They really do need our help and we really do make a difference. There are more than 2,000 patient visits from our sickest kids from Vancouver Island to BC Children's every year for serious trauma, brain injuries, cancer, heart ailments and other serious conditions. My sister had a son born with a serious heart defect. Sadly, despite the amazing efforts of our Children's Hospital medical team (who are among the best on the planet), Kayo was lost after surgery at 2 days old. In the past couple of decades, the survival rate of children born with similar challenges has improved significantly. Also, for example, childhood cancer survival rate has improved from 20% to 80%! Our collective donations made this difference. In addition to my personal pledge to donate a portion of every commission earned which I started in 1998, I served on the hospital foundation Board of Governors for more than 10 years, sponsor an annual Easter Egg Hunt, support the Festival of Trees and am an active participant/buyer at our annual company fundraising auctions supporting CMN and Children's Hospitals. At the end of 2021, my personal donations to CMN and BC Children's Hospital exceeded a cumulative $600,000. My aim is to exceed $1,000,000 in my lifetime and have made a provision in my will to ensure that. Every dollar makes a difference and over time dollars add up! Together we can make a difference. Why Rick gives:

There are so many reasons and causes to get behind and support. Two of the main organizations my family and I choose to support: Through the Royal LePage Shelter Foundation, we support local shelters that are there for women and children fleeing violence, know 100% of the funds raised go directly to the shelter. Everyone has the right to a safe home. Breaking the chain of violence will only build a stronger community and a stronger future for the next generation. Mental health is something that impacts us all and our family is no exception. Losing someone in your family due to a struggle with mental health is something we want others to avoid experiencing. The annual walk and talk for mental health raises funds to support much needed and underfunded services on our community so that people can get the professional support when they may not be able to afford it. We also encourage everyone to check in with people you know and yourself. Have a conversation about mental health and creat a comfortable environment/relationship to be open and honest about it.Why Ed gives:

Supporting woman & children in Nanaimo through the Haven Society, find a safe place to go to escape domestic violence. The Shelter Foundation through Royal LePage provides support to local shelters to help fund critical services such as: Trauma counseling, job training and placement, emergency transportation to a shelter, play therapy for children, homework help for youth, renovations to existing shelters and building new shelters. In some cases, the funds are used to help women and children after they leave the shelter and move into their own accommodations. Why Kim gives:

I am a strong believer of "to whom much has been given, much is expected". I have been extremely fortunate in my life and have had a pull since a young age to help and support others with my time and financial contribution. I have had strong advocates in my life to bolster me and to speak up on my behalf if needed. I have always felt supported and recognize this for the huge gift that it is. Because of this, I feel compelled to help and I tend to align with charities that support individuals who don't have their own voice to advocate for themselves, or who feel alone. Most of the charities that I contribute to with my time and financial resources are those that support children, animals and individuals struggling with mental health. I have always been taught that it doesn't take much to create a change in someone's life...sometimes something as simple as smile to a stranger. I am grateful for my opportunities to contribute. #bettertogetherOther Giving Agents

Giving back to the community has always been a core value for me, both personally and professionally. Through my work in real estate, I’ve seen firsthand how having a safe and stable home can change lives. That’s why I am deeply committed to supporting various community organizations and, in particular, the Royal LePage Shelter Foundation. This foundation provides crucial support to women and children escaping domestic violence, giving them a safe place to heal and rebuild their lives. Knowing that our contributions help provide shelter, resources, and a fresh start for those in need is incredibly meaningful. As part of a brokerage that has been a top 5% donor nationally for several years, I take great pride in being part of a team that prioritizes giving back. Every home we help buy or sell is an opportunity to contribute to something bigger—helping to create safer communities and brighter futures. Real estate is about more than just houses; it’s about people, families, and the sense of security that a home provides. Supporting this cause is not just a responsibility; it’s a privilege and a commitment to making a lasting impact.Let's See How Much Good We Can Do!
