Unfortunately, I had a very negative experience with Tim Walters, who is a broker with this agency. My husband and I are living in a home in NE Minneapolis that is currently owned by my parents and had actually already been sold at the time of the showing with this agent. As a preface, we personally have done quite a bit of work on this property to get it ready for my parents to put on the market, and as well as keep it neat and clean because it's been our home for the last seven months and we care about that sort of thing. Anyway, when I came back to the house from some errands, I heard voices and saw a couple people coming down from the upstairs. I greeted them and went about my business (I would have been surprised since the house had been sold two days earlier, but I assumed a miscommunication on my part). When I noticed that all six or seven of them had neglected to remove their shoes, I was a little taken aback (the ground is covered in salty, dirty slush right now and there were tracks all over the house, including on my deceased grandparents' rug in the living room which I happen to be very sentimental about and fond of). When they had gathered in the kitchen for the second time since they came through the back door I told them that I would have appreciated if they had taken their shoes off. Even though the request was moot at that point, since they were already completing their tour, I felt that it was worth saying for the sake of principle. I, and most people, I think, would never walk through someone's home, whether or not I knew them or if they were there when I arrived, with my shoes one, much less with my wet and dirty shoes to track through the entire house. One or two of them apologized offhandedly and they corralled out the back door (I probably made them uncomfortable, I'm sure). After they left, I called my dad to see if the house was back on the market (which it wasn't, the showing had been approved before the house had sold but had been overlooked) and also told him about the salty, dirty water throughout the house. My dad hadn't been informed of an approved showing so he called Tim Walters to get the scoop and mentioned the part about the shoes. All would have been fine if Mr. Walters had simply apologized for traipsing this crowd of people through the house that is obviously a home with dirty shoes, but instead he was rude and defensive. He told my dad that he had thought the property had been foreclosed (honestly, what agent is so uninformed when they bring clients to a showing?) and when they entered the house, he thought it was vacant/if someone lived there they obviously didn't care (he used the example that there were clothes strewn about all over), and he even asked my father how long it had been since he had seen the property. My dad has seen it recently and knows that this is not the case. In any event, Tim was decidedly insulting over the phone to my father, especially in light of the fact that he was relying on the fact that my dad was uninformed to justify his behavior. The truth is, the dishes are all washed, the floors are clean, the rugs are vacuumed, the bed is made, and there are signs of life everywhere (fresh produce in the kitchen, laptops open, and even three piles of folded laundry on the couch/in Tim's words, "clothes strewn everywhere", or however he put it. The part that bothers me wasn't cleaning up after thoughtless strangers (I do mind about the tracks on the rug because I am sentimental), but it was the carelessness of walking through someones else's home with dirty shoes (a golden rule sort of thing, I guess) and then manipulating the situation to avoid blame. Having hosted over thirty showing in the last two months, this has been the only negative experience.
